The Raite AVPhile 715 is one of a new breed of DVD players that can play both PAL and NTSC formatted discs and convert them to whatever format you need. These players also have secret functions that allow you to change, or even bypass, the region encoding and also defeat Macrovision, the copy protection scheme that prevents you from running the DVD player through your VCR.

The Raite AV715 doesn't have the famous "loopholes" menu found on players such as the Apex AD600A, but it does still have hacks that can be entered via the remote to perform the same functions. Also, it is possible to update the firmware using CD-R discs. This is useful because the standard US models do not have the ability to disable Macrovision, to do this you need to upgrade the firmware from the US standard (version 3E) to the German version (version 3H).
